I can’t say I use snapchat, but Facebook Messenger has supported sending photos for a long time. And while sure you wouldn’t trust facebook with some of the things snapchat is used for, but it works exceptionally well for the “Look at this!” messages.
The other advantage Messenger has is that it’s cross-platform: I can send a message from my Android phone to a friend on their PC. The last time I checked (or asked), snapchat is/was only available on iPhone.
