Very well articulated, justadie. I did something very similar to you with making browser-based telephony my exclusive means of communication via Google Voice, and it was truly wonderful.

To answer the original question of TiO2 – can you use this tablet to make a phone call – the answer is not just yes, but also for free!

For those in the US, there are several competing apps in the play store that all include a dialer to allow you to send and receive phone calls via a nifty Google Voice integration. I purchased and tested the paid version of all of them just this evening, and placed calls to a second device to test. The most frequently-mentioned app in this category is GrooveIP, However, my favorite by far is Spare Phone. With GrooveIP, I found that call quality started deteriorating rapidly at about the 5 minute mark, until the call just drops. I read other Play Store reviews saying the same thing about GrooveIP. On the other hand, I can say that with the same two devices, and the same Google Voice account running Spare Phone, I did not suffer from these problems. In fact, I also noticed a significantly higher call quality, presumably from a higher-bitrate (which probably means slightly higher bandwidth needs, but I’m sure thiese are slight to begin with).
