’Retina" is a term established by apple and thus, should be only used with apple products. because, what really is that magical Retina resolution? average viewing distance? what is that? every person is different, has different eyes, limbs and habits.
all that pixel/retina stuff is just a marketing. for apple products, basically, retina means “doubling the resolution while keeping the same real estate”. everything looks the same, but instead of 1, there are 4 pixels.
iMac 27 could be marketed as Retina, but is not, because, it has become a tradition that the Retina generation of products basically doubles the resolution over the previous.
if 250ppi is or is not or whether 270ppi is or is not retina does not make that much sense, because different brands use different approach. apple is doubling the density, android mostly appropriates the resolution to HD standards (720, 1080)
