I don’t see what you don’t understand…ecosystem is important in mobile because these tablets do nothing if you have no software for them. On desktops/laptops you have much more freedom in installing software (Linux distros for example.)
On OS X you can run VMWare/Parallels/Crossover and run nearly any windows app that doesn’t have a mac equivalent. Or run bootcamp and run windows itself. On a tablet you don’t have that option. You are stuck on Android/W8/iOS/Whatever and have no option to switch. There are no compatibility layers to run an iOS app on Android or vice versa.
Ultimately the reason is that OS X and Windows are mature platforms and already have good software for essentially every task you want to accomplish. Mobile OS’s are still trying to reach that point.
