I agree with david.james that 256ppi definitely IS Retina territory, but your explanation here is a ridiculous oversimplification of what Apple has built into the term. Retina simply means that at a normal viewing distance, one cannot determine individual pixels. How are we still having conversation with every tablet/phone review since 2010? By Apple’s definition, the Nexus 10, Galaxy Note, and Lumia 920 all have Retina-level displays, just to name a few.
