These pictures are amazing.

You can see by the complexity of the place, how difficult it would be to totally overhaul it, which is probably why much of the wiring there is decades old – it would simply result in too much down time, as well as a massive effort to overhaul the old copper, which is why telecommunications infrastructure tends to languish for such a long period of time. This storm is quickening new fibre, and that’s great, because it gives a pressing reason to upgrade.
