Funny thing is I just owned both for 3 days (just sold the Nexus and kept the Mini) and I did find the Mini to be much easier to hold. Three specific reasons:
1) The iPad Mini is lighter.
2) The iPad ignores screen edge touches so your thumb can overlap on the screen, the Nexus does not (unless they add this to Android which iOS6 added).
3) The rubber back of the Nexus is actually, shockingly, more slippery than the smooth aluminum. I tested this by laying each in the palm of my hand and at the same angle at the same time lowering both hands until one started slipping. I switched hands and the result was the same. The Nexus slipped first. The aluminum just somehow tends to grip skin better, the Nexus’ rubber back is just too smooth. I found the iPad mini much easier to hold overall. But this is not a knock on the Nexus 7 which is a great device for $200, no argument.
