I too vote for Nexus 7.
Since I have both, knowing I’d keep the one I like and designate the other as a “family” device, I must say the 7 has the iPad beat in a few areas. One is the slightly narrower width, which combined with the shape of the back and it’s grippy surface makes holding the Nexus 7 a joy.
Conversely the iPad mini is a bit slippery, as well as being just a bit too wide to hold comfortably with just one hand. In addition the Nexus display with it’s higher ppi rating is a far clearer screen. Battery life is the same between them, so it’s a personal choice for me.
