As someone who had a WiFi-only iPad and who now has a 4G iPad 3, I can answer that: Basically, a MiFi or tethering is a pain. Turn it on. Set it up. Connect. Turn the tablet on. THEN do whatever it is you wanted to do in the first place.
With a 3/4G “always connected” tablet, you just pick it up and do your search, visit the website, or whatever. A lot less hassle.
And with less hassle, you find that you get more out of the device. You use it more. Lookup things more. Take it more places because it’s more useful.
It — quite literally — changes the nature of the device.
