it is final.
of course there will be a next version too. but it is final as in it’s a final release of that version and not a beta.
office ‘97 is the only version that was really final – as in they made it to their ui specs. after that they’ve been just diverting from that in various experiments and metro stylification is just the latest in the perpetual changing movement.
