The ice blue tint actually has a purpose. It blends with the generally warm light of surrounding incandescent bulbs to produce an almost neutral pure white effect to the page. Its actually very effective in all but the most dim lighting. Its a very strange effect to turn it down all the way side by side with an old kindle and watch as the page become more “white” as you slowly turn it up (the old kindle looks more like a dirty grey in the same light). If you turn it up too far it will of course look bluish but its really nice when its in the sweet spot.
