A published spec doesn’t an open standard make, unless you believe that Apple’s 30pin dock connector was an open standard or Post Script is an open standard (they’re not).

PDF on the other hand is an open standard, because while originally created by Adobe, it was submitted to ISO and went through a formal standardization process.

I think your problem is that you don’t actually know what the words ‘Proprietary’ or ‘Open’ actually mean
