Post comment on The Verge to "Kindle Paperwhite review"

I don’t really have a problem reading books on my tablet. It’s not my primary communications device (my phone) so the notifications are at a minimum. If people find themselves watching movies instead of reading, maybe that’s what they really wanted to do anyway. They’re both (primarily) recreational activities. If they really “wanted” to read the book, they would have read the book.
Besides, if you want to talk about distraction, how about the laborious refresh rate during page turns, or that screen blacking thing it does every 6 pages turns or so. I borrowed a friend’s Kindle for the weekend when I was looking into buying a reading device . This was originally when the Kindle Fire had just been announced, and I hadn’t yet figured out which way to go. My pre-conceptions of e-ink technology were pretty high, and very quickly dashed upon the rocks of reality. I went with the Fire, which I replaced with a Nexus 7 8 months later, but that’s unrelated. The interface and the refresh rate of the e-ink took me out of the experience more than any email notification ever could.
