This is for reading books, and reading books only. Some people want to be able to enjoy a book without the distractions that tablets often come with, such as notifications or knowing that a webpage or movie is just a few taps away.
The light is front lit for a reason, but it certainly looks better than the SP, which had way too much light on the edges and not enough in the middle.
With the light on the contrast is high and doesn’t hurt your eyes. If you want a media consumption device then a tablet is great. If you want to read books without distraction this is the best option.
