Because people expect numbers. If I remember rightly, it was under Josh that Engadget scrapped their number review scheme. I actually prefer that, since it forces people to read the body of the review, or at least the verdict, instead of hung on a couple of digits. Still remember the number of people bitching about the Lumia 900 ‘ecosystem’ score, how many threads that popped up asking why the score depreciated etc.

But fans expect it, since they can directly compare who has the bigger epeen when to their choice of phone.
