I understand and respect your decision but I won’t be following along.
Fact is that I can read these books everywhere, on every device I own. I can get any book I want at the same price or less than any of the other EPUB vendors are selling. In many cases, since I’m a Prime subscriber – I got Prime for the 2 day free delivery long before the other perks were added – I can get the same book for free to read from the lending library. Further, there are lots of “singles” books priced to sell at $2.99 or less. Sure, they’re not exactly “War and Peace”, but I’ve found a lot of decent reads in there.
Finally, If I actually do come across an EPUB book I want to read, I need only to use Calibre to translate it for Kindle.
So, yeah, Amazon’s format is proprietary. But it lets me read LOTS without taking up a lot of space in my home and it does it better than any competitors. So, while I respect your decision, I just don’t see a compelling reason to follow along.
