I think that Apple just had a disagreement with EPEAT, especially over their requirement R.4.4.21 that states:

All desktop and notebook personal computers shall be upgradeable with common tools, including memory drives, chips and cards that can be changed or extended.

Obviously this is incompatible with computers like the Retina MBP.
