Lady Gaga’s image is not, “Look at me, I don’t give a fuck.” That’s one of the many things she says, but it’s not what she would choose to define herself with. She views herself strictly as a fine artist and musician who fuses fashion and culture in her label just as Madonna once did. I do think that, compared to most of the other pop music released today, Lady Gaga’s music contains much more depth than is suspected upon first listen. Her latest singles, not so much, but the rest of her recent album, Born This Way, contains subtle references to JFK, Marilyn Monroe, suicide, Larry Flynt, McQueen, etc. It’s not, “OH WOW, THIS IS SHOCKING!” deep, but for a pop album, it’s impressive. Lady Gaga herself fully admits to creating an image and detailing how she wants people to perceive her. It’s all in her interviews. That’s why I consider her to be a more genuine musician than Katy Perry, who does not take any creative risks. My main point was that Katy Perry does not nearly contain enough depth as a person nor as an artist to warrant an entire movie dedicated to her brand. My apologies for the long response.
