Post comment on The Verge to "TomTom expands free daily map updates to all its GPS devices"

Why does the story not mention that this feature was active on TomTom Home at least two and a half years ago (when I had a device that used their old system), and that they killed it and everything else that was good about TomTom when they rolled out MyTomTom to replace Home? I bought a new TomTom about a year ago because I’d lost my old one, and its Garmin replacement kept trying to route me in the most absurd directions. I was really looking forward to getting back to the user updates, user voices, user car icons, official map updates, etc. Except, guess what! You can’t use Home with the new devices! You have to use MyTomTom. Which was effectively useless for literally the first six months I had my new GPS. It wouldn’t even give me my guaranteed quarterly map updates. It said the Serial Number I entered was invalid for the first few months.

A full year after I bought my current TomTom GPS, the software FINALLY started allowing me to add user voices and such. Now, 18 months after purchase, I’m FINALLY allowed to start using other promised features. This isn’t a new thing, this is an old thing they’ve withheld for over 18 months. I don’t know WTF they were thinking, but TomTom screwed the pooch on this software.
