MS has been known to “leak” products before. They have been investigated by the DOJ for doing this as an anticompetitive measure. This Courier was “leaked” in late September/early October ahead of when everyone knew Apple would be showing off a tablet.

When was the Courier publicly cancelled? Six months later and after the iPad’s release.

Fast forward to today and what did MS do? The decided to act beforehand and show off a tablet with virtually no details right before Google I/O.

It is not like MS does not have a history for this. Hell, the term vaporware comes from an MS employee referring to one of their own products.

And a lot of cool things come from Microsoft Research, and MOST never turn into a product.

This is not some average product that came out of MS. This project was worked on by the big wigs over there such as Allard. Guys like this don’t work on projects if that won’t see the light of day and they certainly don’t quit because of it being just another project.
