"Turning an iPod and Square card reader into a reel-to-reel tape player"

It’s cool because the Square reader is designed for reading credit cards, Square never said on their website, “Oh yeah, by the way, you guys, you can use this thing to play tape.” Evan Long is creative enough to have come up with this and geeks who are creative and enjoy seeing concepts that nobody else has thought of come to life will appreciate it. Also, you say that it’s cool to people “who think they are geeks because they once wrote a HTML page by hand”, yes, I have written a website in HTML before (big whoop), but I also make iPhone apps and am currently building a multi-touch table, for which I am creating a framework from scratch. I would love to see you write some software that can do what Evan Long’s did. It should be a doddle for you, being the definitive geek and all.
