I would agree with Killing Time. My family had a Sony TV that lasted 17 years, and a portable CD player and stereo system that both lasted over 10.

My dad replaced the Sony with another one about five years ago, but it only lasted two years. Now he has a Toshiba.

Both our examples are anecdotal, of course, so they mean very little.
