But I think that’s the point. RIGHT NOW we both think of Gates and Jobs according to their businesses, and Jobs has a bigger halo.

But in 50 years’ time, will the results of Gates’ work be credited as some of the great humanitarian advances of our time? Will we see Gates in history textbooks in that context and will that have far more staying power than the history of their technology innovations?

Gladwell says yes. I’m a big fan of his — I’m not saying he’s always right, but his point is pretty obscured throughout these comments.
