"Pre to postmortem: the inside story of the death of Palm and webOS"

Agree with OMF, Palm was moribund well before this story even begins. The epic event was 3Coms announcement that “Palm will never be a separate company” which drove visionary leaders Jeff, Donna and Ed out. This was followed 1 year later by 3Coms’ decision to spin out a Palm IPO in March of 2000. Having driven out the brilliant leadership, the 3Com (short for “3 comedians”, we used to say) went thru 4 CEOs in as many years. When I got there in early 2001 it was a ship without a rudder. The leadership at Palm was non-existent. They had published their recipe and gave up their lead. No doubt Apple read the playbook and used their might to fill in the blanks. So in fact 3Com killed Palm. It just took a while for the world to find out. #tragic
