It’s called POLA – Point of Least Astonishment. It’s a design principle really. People don’t like large amounts of change so you change things only as you need.
People have been trained to use the Start button for decades now. It’s just like when people bitch about a website redesign. I see why they changed it, and it is not a bad reason. People will come around I suspect but the grousing is normal and expected.
