Okay, fine. Then if you leave your car unlocked and parked on the street, its okay to take it? I mean, it’s just sitting there, right? I’m just trying to figure out where the line is here. Is there a dollar amount where taking someone else’s property is okay? If you put a laptop on a table in a park while you bend over to tie your shoe, can I take it? Is there, say, a five second rule type of thing? What if a cute puppy distracts you and you look away for a minute? Can I just shout “Dibs!” and walk off with it?
Also, taking someone’s phone DOES cost them money. They have to replace it.
