Tumblr borrows another Facebook feature, adds real-time notifications to dashboard

Tumblr notification ticker

Tumblr is today inching just a bit closer to Facebook with the introduction of real-time notifications on user dashboards. A staff blog post reveals the company has begun testing the feature, which alerts you when "people you know" like something you've posted to the microblogging site, be it a photo, your new favorite animated GIF, quote, or old-fashioned text entry. All users will begin seeing the notifications — which resemble the functionality of Facebook's live ticker — over the next few hours. Thankfully, like Facebook's sometimes distracting sidebar addition, Tumblr is also giving you the option to disable real-time notifications and continue viewing the dashboard in its old, static form.
