Facebook just pinged members of the press with an invitation to an event on January 15th, which immediately follows the madness here at CES this week. Facebook doesn't host many events at its corporate headquarters in Menlo Park, CA — a hint that something big is likely in the works.
The invite comes just minutes after rumors of a cheaper iPhone hit the web — an Apple tradition during big events like CES where it's not present. While Facebook is probably not announcing its own phone, there's no doubt it wanted to steal some press coverage during the flurry of technology news here in Las Vegas.
