The original Clamcase was one of the most flawed iPad keyboards we tried in our roundup — since then, the company has gone back to the drawing board and is now debuting a much-improved new model called the Clamcase Pro. Aside from being iPad keyboard cases that feature a flexible, laptop-style hinge, the Clamcase Pro bears almost no resemblance to its predecessor. For starters, the keyboard has been completely redesigned and is much, much better than the older Clamcase. It's roomier and more tactile than its predecessor. While the limitations of the form factor means the keyboard has to be shrunk down and is a bit cramped as a result, it's one of the best compact keyboards we've used.
The case itself is quite attractive and mimics the MacBook Air aesthetic quite well — in that way, it's much like the Brydge+, though the Clamcase Pro offers much more protection for the iPad itself. Another nice feature includes the ability to flip the case around and use it as a stand for movie-watching (or for when you don't want to type). The Clamcase Pro also includes improved battery life — standby time is a whopping six months (with a few hours of typing every day), and the product's website says that the keyboard case will offer about 120 hours of continuous typing time before needed a recharge. Overall it seems like a solid option for those interested in this specific form factor, though it isn't the cheapest option out there. The Clamcase Pro is available now for $169 and works with the iPad 2 as well as the third- and fourth-generation iPads.
