Sony Xperia Z and ZL confirmed through official pictures

Sony Xperia Z and Xperia ZL

There have been several indications that Sony is planning to launch a new 5-inch 1080p smartphone at CES, with the latest evidence coming from the company itself. Engadget has spotted some official press renders of the Xperia Z and the Xperia ZL, codenamed Yuga and Odin respectively. Both of those monikers have cropped up several times in the past, but this slip-up along with the previously seen photos of the Xperia Z looks to be confirmation of Sony’s intent to offer up monolithic slabs yet again. The Xperia Z follows the company’s standard design, but the ZL cuts down on some of the unwanted bezel while repositioning the front-facing camera.

Past rumors have suggested that the Yuga will come with a quad-core Qualcomm processor the same chip that’s found in the LG Nexus 4 and HTC Droid DNA as well as 2GB of RAM and LTE connectivity. It’s unclear if the Xperia ZL has the same specifications we’ll most likely find out more at CES, where Sony is expected to announce the new smartphones.
