Former T-Mobile USA CEO Phillip Humm announced his resignation from the company, effective immediately, earlier this week, with rumors that he was about to join an unnamed competitor. Reuters reports that Humm will join Vodafone on October 1st as chief executive of northern and central Europe. Vodafone issued a statement today to confirm Humm's new role, stating that the company feels he will be a "strong" addition to the Vodafone group executive committee.
Vodafone also announced that its chief executive of Vodafone Italy, Paolo Bertoluzzo, will take a new role as chief executive of southern Europe. Humm reportedly informed T-Mobile USA in April that he planned to leave at the end of September to return to his family in Europe, so the Vodafone move appears to be part of those arrangements.
