Following in the footsteps of Louis C.K., stand-up comedian Jim Gaffigan has announced that he will be selling his next one-hour comedy special directly to consumers. Jim Gaffigan: Mr. Universe will cost $5, with $1 from each purchase going towards the Bob Woodruff Foundation, a charity that provides support to veterans and their families. The arrangement is very similar to C.K.'s special, which also cost $5 and earned more than $1 million in just 12 days. Gaffigan — who in addition to stand-up has made film and TV appearances in everything from The Ellen Show to Flight of the Conchords — will film the special later this month in Washington, D.C., and release it on his website in April.

I don’t know his comedy, but I wish him luck. I hope it is as successful as Louis CK’s

Search using your prefered Method “Jim Gaffigan Hot Pockets”
It will change Your life.
pcgamer - February 15, 2012
This is true. So true.
sooper_verge12 - February 15, 2012 via mobile
I didn’t find it very funny.
sirkuttin - February 15, 2012
This was painfully unfunny. Just really, really bad. I cracked a small smile once, maybe.
Dorek - February 18, 2012
I love Jim Gaffigan almost as much as Louis C.K., and I’m so glad to see them using this distribution method. Here’s to good comedy!
naterecording - February 16, 2012
HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT POCKET!
(and bacon)
This is awesome. Gaffigan is pretty funny. I am definitely buying this. The Louis C.K. special was not only a great idea, but funny to boot!
Entegy - February 15, 2012
Awesome! Joe Rogan is working on such show as well, hope to see musicians go that route as well soon.
Screw the middle men
Pavelz - February 15, 2012
Only problem is that screws job’s. Good for consumer…good for artist…bad for economy?
Titan078 - February 15, 2012
Sorry to break it to you, but the economy must move forward. If you think like this, we would still be sitting at sewing machines, cutting down trees by hand and be working in the coal mines.. (and we definitely wouldn’t have computers)
When the “media industry” (read distribution service for media by plastic discs) falls, it will be a glorious moment…
MrAhlin - February 16, 2012
sorry but if your job consists of profiting off of someone else’s talent then i’m not going to shed a tear for you. If nothing else artists going this route will force these huge media companies to stop taking HUGE cuts while blaming consumers for the decline in their profits.
jeffhesser - February 16, 2012
I find this man extremely funny. I’ll be purchasing this.
avinash240 - February 15, 2012
I can’t wait until April. Hurry up, Jim. Chip chop chip!
Helvetica - February 15, 2012
chip chop chip? that doen’t even make any sense!
charudatta - February 15, 2012
i laughed. thanks for that.
msodrew - February 16, 2012
Content owners have to hate this trend. They can’t get a dime of it. Music. Video. Books. The actual talent is bypassing the blood squeezers.
MrTweaker - February 15, 2012
Absolutely.
But… Jim might not have gotten as far as he has without agents, managers, and other blood-suckers. You don’t get to be on TV without having someone looking out for you. The reason we know Jim Gaffigan is because of the promotion done by hundreds of people over the years.
Jim is hilarious… no doubt. But Jim is also famous… in part from the hard work done by his people.
Could a random small-town comedian sell his performance for $5 on the internet? He could try… but no one would know who he is.
It’s the same sorta thing that happens when musicians sell their music themselves. Of course we know who Nine Inch Nails is… they already have a huge fanbase by the time they offer their internet wares.
Michael Scrip - February 15, 2012
I disagree with the $5 price. Why should he make six figures for just talking? Ridiculous!
Therefore, I will torrent this show.
heelo - February 16, 2012 via mobile
I’m not a huge fan of his material, but I’ll buy this on principle alone.
requieminadream - February 15, 2012
Yup, Gaffigan is one funny guy. I prefer his type of comedy to that of C.K’s.
Codernaut - February 15, 2012
Awesome. Gaffigan is the funniest comedian on the planet now after Gervais.
Lockhart1 - February 15, 2012
Gaffigan is amazing. One of my favorite comedians and bacon enthusiasts.
TheAmazingBman - February 15, 2012
Gaffigan on Bacon

Codernaut - February 15, 2012
He’d be funnier without the voices. “It becomes a game of find the bacon in the lettuce” was a nice line though.
d0mth0ma5 - February 15, 2012
I absolutely love Jim Gaffigan. Definitely gotta pick this up! (I should grab Louis’ as well!)
creezy - February 15, 2012
I loved Beyond the Pale, and I love the idea of cutting out the middle man. Definite buy.
BarkerWoofer - February 15, 2012
I love Louis C.K, I love Jim Gaffigan and I love the concept behind this form of distribution. Hopefully he goes the MP4 format that C.K used :D
westonp - February 15, 2012
Excellent! I hope it does great as I love the idea behind it.
Waltah - February 15, 2012
I find Jim WAAAAAY funnier than Louis CK honestly
hotnikkelz - February 15, 2012
your out of your freaking mind. Louis CK is the best working comedian. Seinfeld, Chris Rock and Ricky Gervais all literally said that. his self deprecating humor and real life situational shit is just, unreal. i know its just your opinion, and i respect that but dude, saying WAAAAYYYYY better, is just wrong.
dudeimgeorge - February 16, 2012
That’s just like, your opinion, man.
awesomerobot - February 16, 2012
I couldn’t agree with you any harder. Louis CK makes Jim Gaffigan look like the mildly funny guy at the Post Office.
Dorek - February 18, 2012
This guy is seriously funny! Both his DVD’s “Beyond The Pale (2007)” and “King Baby (2009)” are hilarious! Watch them if you haven’t. I’ll definitely support this when it comes out.
The bowling skit always cracks me up since my friends and I always go bowling… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5fm7QPA9zY
OMGitsShan - February 15, 2012
Your friends and you always go bowling… it is because you really really love bowling, or because you think, “wouldn’t it be hysterical if we went bowling?” :P
soaringthor - February 16, 2012
Definitely getting this. Gaffigan and Louis deal with two very different types of humor w/Louis more often going for the shock and shame value. Both great acts though.
kenshin - February 15, 2012
I got to see his show in person before I knew who he was, and let me tell you it was such a treat. Definitely had a sore face and stomach from all of the laughing.
Marbs - February 16, 2012
lets get a kickstarter going for this show. haha. but seriously i’d gladly give him my money right now for whatever this is.
jeffhesser - February 16, 2012
I love the idea. I hope this starts a revolution with artists cutting out the middle man who has a tendency of making this more costly than they need to be. I was happy to fork over my $5 for Louie. I’m not familiar with Jim, but I wont hesitate to do the same simply to support the cause.
