Quick read
There are plenty of powerful, functional, and fast robots out there, but it's no secret that the promise of true robotic helpers — think Rosie from The Jetsons — has been a disappointment for decades. We've seen processor power increase by leaps and bounds over the years, but we're still very far from real humanoid robotic helpers. As a recent New Yorker piece summarizes, this is due to limitations in battery technology, artificial intelligence, and the motors and actuators that move these machines. If you're still waiting for the robot of your dreams, maybe it's just time to lower your expectations or dig in for the long haul.
