Watch this: Will Smith and son team up in the trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's 'After Earth'

2013 is looking to be a big year for A-list actors and science fiction, and now we're getting a look at the M. Night Shyamalan and Will Smith collaboration After Earth. The trailer lays out the story simply enough. Smith and his son, played by the actor's real-life offspring Jaden Smith, crash-land on Earth — but it's a world that has transformed into a hostile, Avatar-style landscape where everything "has evolved to kill humans." Since breaking out with The SIxth Sense, Shyamalan has dabbled in both science fiction and fantasy before — with varying degrees of success — but from the looks of the trailer he's stepping up his game to create a complete world the likes of which he hasn't tackled before. Of course, it's not clear if impressive effects will be enough to help moviegoers forget the homicidal plants and hydrophobic aliens that have peppered Shyamalan's career over the last decade — we'll have to wait until the movie hits theaters next summer to find out.
