To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Battlefield 1942, Electronic Arts is now offering the classic first-person shooter for free through its Origin service. Taking place during the events of World War II, this digital version includes online multiplayer with and against others who have downloaded the game. Unfortunately, existing expansion packs are not included and compatibility with older mods is not guaranteed. Regardless, Battlefield 1942 is the game that paved the way for fantastic shooters like Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3, and is one of the franchise's most important titles. As an added bonus, EA is also offering a free electronic art booklet that features concept designs that the development team used more than a decade ago.
