Twitter appoints media mogul Peter Chernin to board of directors

Twitter is announcing a new appointment to its board of directors — Peter Chernin, a media heavyweight that used to run both Fox Entertainment Group and News Corp., helped found Hulu, holds a board seat at Pandora, and owns and runs the Chernin Entertainment film and TV production company. Earlier today, All Things D reported that Twitter was poised to make the announcement, which it just has.

The appointment fits Twitter’s continued push into traditional media like movies and TV, contrasting with current board members that are primarily from the tech world. Following the news of his appointment, the Twitter user of two years fired off the following inaugural tweet:
