Since 1995, for around two weeks every December, Kobe, Japan becomes a brilliant festival of lights. Known as the Kobe Luminarie, the light show is a way of remembering the Great Hanshin earthquake that took place in the region that year, killing thousands. Now an annual event, the Luminarie features stunning, large-scale lighting installations — you can check out a few of the more impressive displays over at My Modern Met.
