The Kobe Luminarie remembers a tragedy with a brilliant light show

Since 1995, for around two weeks every December, Kobe, Japan becomes a brilliant festival of lights. Known as the Kobe Luminarie, the light show is a way of remembering the Great Hanshin earthquake that took place in the region that year, killing thousands. Now an annual event, the Luminarie features stunning, large-scale lighting installations — you can check out a few of the more impressive displays over at My Modern Met. If you happen to be in the region, the memorial will be running from December 6th through to the 17th this year, and you can find out more details at the source link below.
